The mission of the Nutmeg Ballet Conservatory is to provide professional-level training, education and performance experience in classical ballet and other dance forms for young students dedicated to the art of dance.
Now led by Nutmeg graduate and Artistic Director Victoria Mazzarelli, Nutmeg is supported by a dedicated group of faculty and staff that is enthusiastically growing our programs and community footprint. Bringing students to Torrington from around the world, The Nutmeg continues to be involved in a multitude of community events from raising funds for cancer research, supporting our local clubs and organizations, to performing for our area school children. We continue to be inspired by Ms. Dante’s commitment to “Grow Where You Are Planted”.
Victoria Mazzarelli has assembled an international faculty that trains students in The Nutmeg’s pre-professional program – combining the fundamentals of the Vaganova methodology with a blend of neo-classical and contemporary styles. The Nutmeg offers both a Year-Round Residency Program and a series of Summer Programs, each immersing students in intensive study and training. The Nutmeg Ballet Conservatory is unique in its dedication to teaching classical ballet alongside a full resident performance season, thus placing equal emphasis on training and performance skills. The commitment of The Nutmeg’s faculty and guest artists is to utilize this ideal combination of experiences to prepare students for the demands of 21st century professional dance companies. Additionally, the school maintains a full Conservatory Academic Program (CAP) for year-round students. The CAP program provides educational options as well as college preparation for students who endeavor to further their academic careers in a university setting.
