CLASSICAL BALLET FACULTY, NATIONAL AUDITION TOUR CO-DIRECTOR, ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR EMERITA
JOAN KUNSCH
Now in her 4th decade on The Nutmeg faculty, where she serves as National Audition Tour Co-Director and Associate Director Emerita, Joan has also taught for academies and university dance departments across the USA. Internationally, she is a returning guest artist in Tallinn (Ballet Summer Estonia International Workshop), Halifax (Maritime Conservatory, Oslo (Kirkenaer Ballettskolen), Stockholm (the Swedish Ballet School and Balettakademien), London (Royal Ballet and Royal Academy of Dance), The Hague (The Royal Conservatory) and Reykjavik (Iceland's National Ballet School). Her choreography includes works for concert stage, sacred space, TV and outdoor venues such as Jacob's Pillow.
She has served as Ballet Mistress to MOMIX and Ballet Mississippi. Dancers she has co-taught have joined over 70 professional companies, including Boston Ballet, Colorado Ballet, ABT, NYCB, Joffrey Ballet, Richmond Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Les Grands Ballet Canadiens.
Publications: "Playing with Gravity" (poetry, Antrim House 2007), a CD (2011), numerous poetry journals and awards, and a Pointe Magazine article on Nutmeg's Artistic Director, Victoria Mazzarelli.
She and Kathi Byam form the sister duo "Flute Meets Poem."
Painting exhibitions: group shows at The Five Points Annex (Sept. 2024), the Nutmeg Conservatory Gallery (Oct./Nov. 2021) and (ongoing) a The Domestic Monastery gallery in Avon, CT.
